August 20, 2024 - Week 30
Yes - I did go to the Beach this week. At this rate, the sand I have been collecting from every beach I've visited may be enough for a small sand pit. I visited Mammee Bay Beach in St Ann's with a newfound friend who was on secondment from Trinidad & Tobago. It also marked a milestone in my journey to conquer my fear of swimming with fish. At Mammee Beach, there were schools of fish and so after a while of slowly adjusting (including me screaming to the fish to give me "personal space"), I dared to swim underwater with my swimming goggles and finally understood why people loved snorkeling.

This week also marked another milestone - as the only non-Jamaicans at a Comedy show, my friend and I were both dragged on stage during a Comedy Bar evening. Who knew that I would end up having a dance battle on stage with a Jamaican who knew the moves to the dancehall song...

To close off the week, I revised the National Gallery of Jamaica where a wooden sculpture by Edna Manley (wife of the first Premier of Jamaica Norman Manley) captured my attention. It's always interesting to learn tidbits about mixed-raced Jamaicans and their impact on politics and Jamaica in general.
